Certificates of Birth, Marriage and Death

Applications for Birth/Marriage/Death Certificates are available at the Guyana High Commission in New Delhi, India.

It is recommended that the completed application form be sent to a relative or friend who can submit it to the Registrar General’s Office and collect the certificate in a few weeks. The fee is Guy$30.00.

Alternatively, if there is no one in Guyana to assist, the application can be processed through the Guyana High Commission in New Delhi. A fee of Rs. 5500, which includes courier charges to Guyana, can be made by cash or demand draft to the Guyana High Commission, New Delhi. This will take approximately 3-6 months.

  1. REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION OF BIRTHS OF GUYANESE IN INDIA

At least one (1) parent whose name is recorded on the Foreign Birth CertificateMUST be a Guyanese by birth, descent, naturalization or registration.

  • Registrant must be born after May 26, 1966.
  • Person to be registered must appear in person along with the following documents:
    1. Original Birth Certificate of the person being registered
    2. Proof of Birth of the Guyanese parent, whose name must be recorded on the foreign Birth Certificate.
    3. Original Birth Certificate of parent of registrant
    4. Valid photo identification of person effecting the registration.
    5. If that person is not the parent, a duly notarized authorization should also be produced.
    6. Births not registered in English must be accompanied by an official translation
  • Original Birth Certificate of the Registrant will be retained.
  • The processing fee is 1300 (cash or demand draft).

 

  1. REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION OF THE DEATH OF A GUYANESE IN INDIA

Guyanese who expires in India are entitled to have their deaths registered at the Guyana High Commission in New Delhi, India. The requirements include:

  • Proof that the deceased was a Guyanese by BIRTH.
  • Death Certificate issued by the state in India where the death occurred.
  • Person effecting the registration must submit valid photo identification.
  • All documents must be authenticated.
  • The processing fee is 1300 (cash or demand draft).

 

NOTE:                          

  • A copy of the Registration will be forwarded to the General Registrar Office in Guyana for its records.
  • On receipt of the Certificate of Registration of Birth, the registrant becomes eligible to apply for a Guyana passport.
  • On receipt of the Certificate of the Registration of death in India, an application can be made through this High Commission for a Death Certificate of the deceased.
