On August 13th, 2018, H.E. Dr. David Goldwin Pollard presented his Letter of Credence to H.E. Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia, in Jakarta. Guyana and Indonesia established diplomatic relations on August 27, 1999, however, there were prior engagements within the Non-Aligned Movement where the two countries began to formulate cordial ties.
Guyana and Indonesia, having shared a common history of colonization, are collaborating to address issues such as development, counter-terrorism, and climate change. In multilateral fora, we collaborate in the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation where Indonesia is the most populous, majority Moslem nation. This advancement in diplomatic relations will seek to further enhance cooperation in areas of mutual, bilateral interest.
H.E. Dr. Pollard has also recently been accredited as Guyana’s Non-Resident High Commissioner to Bangladesh, concurrently holding the office of Guyana’s High Commissioner to India.
